SHOPWelcome to Purple Hummingbird Co. We are a Canadian harm-reduction brand raising awareness around addiction, overdose prevention, and Naloxone education through bold advocacy apparel and community outreach.
Created in honour of my triplet sister; Alexandra, Purple Hummingbird Co. exists to turn grief into action—because recovery is possible, and asking for help saves lives.
Why we exist
Purple Hummingbird Co. was born in 2022, after the loss of my triplet sister, Alexandra, to a fentanyl-related overdose.
I wanted to honour her memory with something bold—because she was bold. Alexandra was full of energy from the day we were born. In the short 25 years we shared, she lived fiercely, loved deeply, and never stopped moving forward. I’m proud to call her my sister, my third, my wombmate.
Just like a hummingbird, Alexandra never stopped going. Purple was her favourite colour. From that love, that loss, and that energy, Purple Hummingbird Co. came to life. I like to think of her as one of my angels—guiding this work every day. She would be so proud of what this has become.

Purple Hummingbird Co. began with handmade apparel—personally pressed sweaters and shirts designed to spark conversation, challenge stigma, and build awareness around harm reduction, Naloxone/Narcan first aid, and recognizing opioid overdoses.

We advocate for harm reduction—forever and always—to save others for those we could not.
We advocate for access to treatment services, for helping people get there, and for creating real change in our communities with other amazing teams of people around Ottawa and the Valley.
We are the Purple Hummingbird Co. family—
Bold for Those No Longer Here Due to Addiction.
✨ New designs are now printed through third-party partners, while original pieces continue to be personally pressed with intention and care.
A portion of all proceeds is donated to Mental Health and Addiction Services in honour of Alexandra Smith. We are actively working with services in Ottawa, The Valley, and beyond to support individuals navigating addiction treatment and recovery. We want to ensure that these funds go directly into aiding proper programs and support services through travel accommodation, clothing and personal care items, food cards, and working with meaningful services within the communities that do outreach to those in need.
Our mission is unwavering: to reduce harm, honour lives lost, support recovery, and remind people—loudly—that recovery is possible while being BOLD.
